Do you ever just get an idea that you can’t get out of your head. I am not sure what it is, but I can’t stop dreaming of software! It’s not the word processing software that I am currently writing this on. NO, it is future software that doesn’t even exist yet. Or if it does, I do not know about it.
That is one thing I have discovered in this world, is that you can think something doesn’t exist, but it often doesn’t mean, the thing you are thinking truly doesn’t exist. We often just don’t know what we don’t know. Which is not a bad thing in the slightest. It makes the world exciting.
If you are reading these words, you have probably heard of some technologies built on Blockchain technology, like Bitcoin, or Doge coin, or maybe you have heard of the FTX saga. If you haven’t heard of any of this, you are going to be disappointed, because there are people much better at describing this technology more so than I. I only know enough to understand how much I truly don’t know.
Not knowing is not going to stop me. Especially my brain. Last night it would not turn off. My ideas were churning in my brain, percolating with ideas that I am going to attempt to put on the page now.
I imagine, because I am not a software writer, that some of the fundamental limits of software, I do not know, thus I might bump up against a limit you might know, that I do not. I think that helps me in my case as I am not going to have biases of what can and can’t be done. I would rather not limit my imagination in this instance.
The first piece that I thought of was world interaction and discovery. When you open the software, you shouldn’t really see the software, but you will see the world in a different light, across multiple different platforms interacting with the world in different ways.
Imagine having a phone, a computer, a Play Station or Xbox, VR goggles, several different platforms of exploring and creativity, interaction and experience, using those means to interact with the world in a whole new way, leaving your mark on the digital world for all to see. Put those NFTs you bought to use. For it’s the Human experience that I would love to augment. There is so much we are missing out on.
Imagine a park that you walk by on your way to your destination, but the park is shrouded in mist, because an experiencer, someone active on my new software platform, is projecting their view into the world. As you walk into the park the mist, dissolves, and you see a beautiful water fountain by another local user. It’s something they have created and host in the real world.
Maybe you want that to be your public view every time you walk past. You tip a coin to make it your default. That goes to the original creator, or say you would like the default park, you choose that and don’t see the projection.
Another example would be a user who doesn’t want to Roam: leaving their house, using Augmented Reality (AR). They just stay at their house, but you can’t find your remote, and you are wanting to watch a movie. You ask your Virtual assistant to locate your remote, and a pathway is illuminated on your AR screen. Taking you to the last catalogued location.
You can make your physical items in your world digital and have a digital copy that your Assistant keeps tabs on. Say you have a garden. You could easily have overlays showing when you planted a plant, or how many days until its ready to harvest, or even keep tabs on the numbers of fruit on your tomato vine. Or helping you identify plants or weeds, giving you an overlay of information.
Now imagine someone playing their avatar on their computer, flying through the virtual world overlayed on the physical world, flying through your home town and looking at all the artwork, or hearing the sounds and music left by others. As you are flying on your computer, another user using their AR/VR glasses, sees you flying through their town. Or maybe you are on your Play station playing a racing game, weaving back and forth through traffic on the freeway. Jumping cars for points.
Imagine making a digital copy of your favorite Samurai Sword. Now with your digital version you upgrade it to have damage points, magic resistance, and you sell them in App to others to make in-game coin, building you’re in game reputation. Building your arsenal for your clan battle at a famous football stadium or your local park or school playgrounds. Talk about recess! I wanna join!
Say you want to post a quest in your local city. You post coin as a reward the number of times people can take the quest or number of people that can take the quest. Maybe you want your favorite public park to have a specific digital façade that the public sees. Its voted on for a game holiday.
Maybe you want to have an AR battle in the park with your friends, like laser tag, but instead, you see the visual affects fly through the air at your friends and you see the spells they cast and where they are going.
These are just some of the features that I am inspired by and think about on a regular basis.
Now it’s important to note, that I haven’t a clue if any of this is possible. There are some fundamental limitations to networking that I think I have a plan on to solve and enable.
In comes down to the blockchain for fundamentals and security. The fundamental piece of this whole thing is the block chain. Now I am a little deluded here as I am not sure if this aspect is possible but let’s dive in.
You just pull the AR out of the box and have the App open, and you are logging in. The first thing that would happen is an image is processed of your room it identifies all the individual objects in your bedroom, identifying different stuffed animals, articles of clothing, furniture pieces etc. Anything and everything. If it doesn’t know you can give feedback and teach and train it on unrecognized objects.
Anything you would want to be identified would be and could be. But fundamentally, you chose what objects you would like to make digital, so you can move your room around and see what it looks like, or to keep track of your iPad or phone or keys or your cup of coffee.
Each item you chose to make digital gets created on your personal block chain, and when you turn roaming on you can see what others are projecting onto the public chain. Your personal blockchain is private to you, unless you make something public. You can have public and private items. Everything you create, leaves a digital mark that is a Snapshot identifier, that is uniquely individual to you and is used to Authenticate you when you log onto the network/app.
Things are going to get tricky, because how do you Project into the real world? This is where my theories begin, I am just postulating here. But a peer-to-peer network blockchain is what I think needs to happen. Say someone is projecting into the real world and they are playing on their computer, their computer would be the “host” providing the most updated information, to the main server and players/experienciers in the area. The main server connects the different peers allowing them to update each other, as they would each be responsible for their “processing power” and active projections, even archived projections if they are still up to date compared to the main server.
This creates some problems I would imagine, as bandwidth is in limited supply and Update rate will always be the bottle neck. SO, removing the server out of the equation helps speed up the transfer and the connection of Peer to Peer.
Add on another layer of a distributed blockchain. Every peer participates and can act as a mini server, balancing the load and ensuring data integrity. Much like all other peer-to-peer networks, it blocks would be all kept up to date on the main server but blocks can be stored locally, ideally highly used Artifacts would be propagated through multiple users, as they could supply those blocks to others that might need them without pulling from the main servers.
Imagine a popular place, say an NFL football game, and thousands of people are there. The main server could propagate the chain pieces that everyone is using to those at the location. Making a stronger and flexible Peer to Peer network, offloading bandwidth to local WIFI or direct WIFI connections. Enabling for a faster “streaming” service. Your personal AI would get all of the Fixed assets, and those Projecting into the real world would be hosting their projections, supported by friends in groups or circles also with you who are on your friends lists.
Now why am I just syncing the block chain or parts of it? It’s what I call Resolution. The blockchain has the hard coding of what you are looking at, not necessarily the ‘graphics”. The graphics are generated by AI. Which is already possible and will only get better.
Now if you get much of your information from Mainstream Media, you are most likely living under a rock. The MSM only seems to report on emotionally engaging topics that draw polarization. So, you might have heard of Dall-E by OpenAI or Stable Diffusion which is open source, if not, go look them up! I use them for generating images and if you have read any of my other posts you have probably seen some of the creations I have generated with written prompts that the AI converts to an image.
This is important, because we are just at the beginning of these technologies. I see them being integrated into my software; everything will be unique to you. Say you are flying through downtown San Francisco, where that would be a lot of data to either download, have preprocessed etc.
With digital resolution, the AI and the hardware would be able to generate generic buildings and cars and people as you are flying past. With Unique identifiable buildings in place all generic or lower resolution buildings, buildings that aren’t being engaged with, are less unique.
With your AR googles on in your house, the AI will be focused on where you are looking. Humans tend to focus, and you don’t want to waste a bunch of processing power on a house that you are not even looking at. Often you would just recognize the shapes and figures because you often know if it’s a building a house or a person relatively easily, so as you slow down, you’re flying the resolution gets higher, maybe it’s more realistic, or it is real it is just generated from Mapping data. It makes Public and private a bit more interesting.
It incentivizes people to “host” projections, Computers would have more power and contribute more to the system and most likely be compensated in game with coin for doing so. With block chain and encryption, you would be able to authorize other types of transactions, liking buying an augmented sword that someone created. The possibilities are endless, because there would be no limits to creation digitally.
Interaction is a must and enabling interaction in all manners will help the world grow. Enabling individuals to gamify their lives will help with productivity. Personally, I know it will help me with feeling like I am making an impact and accomplishing goals in my life.
Being able to keep track and get feedback on the regular is potentially the very thing that us humans need in order to feel like life is good. For me, so much of my frustration comes from the lack of ability to keep things organized across all aspects of life. Trying to maintain the smallest of details while you are being more and more bombarded with world stimuli through phones Tv screens and computer screens, Soon from VR and AR. It’s not enough to just have access if you can’t utilize it to make it better for you.
Being able to have effect in your life is something that generates happiness for me. Being able to keep track of everything I have planted in a visual manner, without having to opening a notebook, look at your phone and navigate to a specific app. Your AR will know when you go outside you are most likely going to look at your vegetables or do something with your hobby.
As you move away from your house, and you are roaming, why would the software need to worry or process information about those items? They wouldn’t, the human digital bandwidth needs to increase if we are to have any hope of staying ahead of the future of Artificial General Intelligence.
Already we live in little bubbles of our world. We are often closed off to new discoveries, mostly because we just don’t see the information because it’s just not in a fashion that is easy to discover. But just imagine traveling through New Orleans, and seeing history like never before, from those that have lived there, and created and died there. What we could learn about each other, the history we could remember. The art that would not be lost, the histories that will stay in tact.
The world is our oyster, we are leaving a lot on the table. With all the information that is available out there to everyone, publicly, it makes sense to try and use that data. Integrating it into your life, in a manner that makes life easier, more fun, more exciting. I don’t know when I am going to get to this end goal. But I know with the help of time, everything is made into a process. If I would only start, take the step, risk my pride and ego for creation.
Intelligence, what good is having it, if you can’t use information in a manner that provides more perspective for you.
The future possibilities are endless.
All of the art in this essay I created with Stable Diffusion Version 1.5. I used Solar energy from my rooftop solar system, and used my computer I built 6 years ago in 2016.
Let me know what you see when you look at the images, and let me know if you think my software is crazy!
